Divine Harmony: Same Website, 97% Faster

Divine Harmony’s site was taking 30 seconds to load. A two-week rebuild as a lightweight custom theme made the same design load in less than a second.

01 — The challenge

Divine Harmony’s website was built with Divi, and it was taking around 30 seconds to load. Visitors were giving up before the page finished, and a site that slow also gets pushed down in Google’s results.

We tried several rounds of optimization, and none of them moved the needle. After digging further, we traced the problem to a known bug in Divi itself, one with no fix available.

02 — The approach

Harmony didn’t need most of what a visual builder like Divi brings along: dozens of effects, layouts and settings, each one adding weight to every page. So rather than keep patching it, I suggested rebuilding the existing site as a lightweight custom WordPress theme, through our Streamlined Rebuild.

The goal: keep everything Harmony and visitors liked about the site, and drop everything that was slowing it down.

The new theme recreates the existing design page for page. Every bit of content is still editable in WordPress, and pages are built from flexible sections the client can add, edit and rearrange, without the bloat that comes with a visual editor.

03 — The results

30 seconds → under 1 second

The rebuilt site looks the same as before, but now loads in under a second, and its PageSpeed scores are dramatically better.

Harmony can still change any content and rearrange layouts from the WordPress admin. The design they loved is intact; the weight of the page builder is gone.
